**********************************************************

Hello readers,
If you're still with me, I would like to apologise for the sporadic release schedule of the newsletter, and of course, the lack of updates to programs. Between my new job, looking after hpHosts, learning to drive and personal issues offline, my time has been sparse at best. Unfortunately atleast for now, this looks to continue.

I'm hoping to not only release an update to hpHosts in time for Christmas, but also to release one or two program updates too. In the meantime, if I don't speak to you before Christmas, hope you have a great one!

1. A Steven in France!

As you no doubt know already, Bob "WebGrid" McKenzie has finalized his move to France and is now living there permanently. To give me a partial break, he's invited me to stay for a week to give me a break, which I've happily accepted. As such, though my French is seriously lacking to say the least, I'll be away in France either the end of Jan/beginning of Feb next year (I just hope no-one tries to ask me anything as I'll be buggered if I'll be able to understand them, let alone answer them).

I'm kinda looking forward to it for two reasons. Firstly, I've never been abroad before, but mostly, I never got a chance to meet Bob prior to his moving.

I'll be taking my laptop with me as he's asked me to setup both his and his daughters internet whilst I'm there so I'm hoping to be online for atleast a little of the time I spend over there (I tend to suffer from withdrawl if I'm offline for more than an hour, so it'll be both fun and absolute hell at the same time). It'll also provide me with some welcome tranquility to spend both with a good friend, and to do some much needed work.

I'll see about bringing some pictures back for you too ;o)

As an aside, I spoke to Bob earlier this evening and he asked me to pass on his regards to those of you that either talk to him and/or visit his website.

2. An update on Scott Williams

Those of you that visit his site will already be aware of his surgery, so I'll refrain from detail thats already been published. Instead I'll just spend the next few moments letting you all know, I spoke to Scott recently and though the news is not as good as we hoped it would be (he can barely talk at the moment) he is doing better than he was, and is hoping to be back online within the next few weeks (hopefully in time for Christmas if we're lucky).

Unfortunately, he's also been at the hospital quite often recently as his mother has had a turn for the worse aswell.

If you've not already sent him your regards, feel free to do so, I know he appreciates them.

3. hpHosts updates and a mirror

Due to the on-going problems with my connection, I've added a mirror for some of the hpHosts files on the support site at;

http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=Products&p=hphosts

The files currently available are only the main HOSTS files for Windows and the MAC, but I'm hoping to have the rest of them on there within the next day or two.

In the meantime, I've also made a few front and backend modifications to the hpHosts Online website and database. The front end modifications are nothing special, just an effort to "pretty" it up a bit. I've still got one or two more updates planned, but in the meantime, if you think of any other improvements that could be made, please do let me know.

As an aside, I am also currently aware of problems with the hpHosts forums not sending out notification and registration e-mails. I am looking into why this is happening but not being familiar with PHP myself, likely means it'll take a little longer than usual to sort out. In the meantime, please do send me an e-mail if you've registered but not yet received a registration confirmation e-mail.

4. Last newsletter

I'm sorry to say, Decembers newsletter will be the last, the subscriber database will be cleaned out once this edition is sent, and the newsletter subscription form, disabled.

I've not decided whether this is permanent or not yet, but due to a lack of time, amongst other things, I don't feel having both a newsletter and a news page, is currently warranted. I will of course, post a note on the news page to let you know both if it's permanent or not in due course. For now, I'd like to thank those of you that both/either taking/take the time to read my ramblings, and visiting my site's, it's been a pleasure.

5. A note to Index.dat Suite users

Just a note for Index.dat Suite users that I have been notified of a possible problem when using IDS with IE7 installed. I do not have the specifics as yet and do not have IE7 on my test or development machine, so am unable to replicate the issue.

I am planning a release after Christmas that will hopefully resolve the issue and will put a note on the news page when I have been able to replicate and fix the problem. In the meantime, please accept my apologies for any inconvenience.

If you have IDS and IE7 and are NOT seeing usage/deletion problems, please also let me know (if possible, please also include your system spec's (Windows ver etc)) and similarly, let me know if you ARE seeing problems.

As an aside, I would also like to thank everyone that voted for Index.dat Suite for Pricelessware 2007, I've not received an official notice yet and only found out by accident (due mostly to a lack of time, I've not been involved in the 2007 PL CD), but according to the PL2007 webpage, IDS has made it, so thankyou!.

6. Thanks Wrightway!

I would like to extend a huge thankyou to my friends at Wrightway Computers for ending my unemployment phase. It was becoming unbearable. Wrightway Computers is ran by a great bloke called Jonathan (Wright) who just so happens, is also a very good friend.

I've been employed there now for around a month or so and am absolutely loving it!. Not only do I get to be in the "working class" again, I also get to work with a friend - definately an added bonus! (oh and yeah, I am also now able to afford to learn to drive (had 3 lessons since last week and love it!), hehe).

Alas the downside of course, is that my spare time is sparse at best now, but unfortunately, the need for finances kinda made it a no brainer. I'll still be working on the website's and programs etc, as much as I can of course.

7. Help us help you!

Would you be interested in volunteering to design new graphics for one or more of our products, services and/or website's (e.g. logo's, banners and buttons)?, or perhaps simply giving feedback and suggestions for new and existing products/services?. For this and more ways you can help, please see our "Help us" document, located at;

http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=Documents&doc=Help

See you next time, and don't forget to check the news page every so often as interim updates are posted there.
